Catriona Arres Training grant
Catriona (Tutti) Arres owned and ran Dryden riding centre until her untimely death due to cancer in 2005 aged only 43yrs. As well as being a stalwart member and supporter of EFRA, Tutti believed in correct basic training of horse and rider.
Along with her mother Jean McAulay, Tutti taught at the EFRA classes held every Tuesday morning and evening at Dryden from which many members past and present have benefitted. Following Tutti’s death, Les Smith and Anne Millar thought it would be fitting to award a training grant annually in Tutti’s memory. Jean was delighted and the club honoured to have this award presented. A Grasshoppers training event was held initially to set up the fund and the fund is maintained with occasional fundraising.
The choice of recipient is decided by Fiona Busby, Anne Millar and Les Smith with other opinion if it is felt necessary. The members who have won this award have all progressed well.
The grant of £100 is presented annually to a member who it is considered has progressed their horse through regular training at club level. The aim of the grant is to give them the opportunity to advance their progress through lessons with other Trainers. The lucky recipient is announced at the Annual Getogether in February where it is customary for the member to give a brief report the following year on how they used the grant!
